I have been a teacher for 31 years, teaching all ages from kindergarten to high school. My heart, however, is with kindergarten. This is my 5th year teaching kindergarten here at Mountainview. I am married, have 2 married sons, 2 grandsons, and 2 dogs. |
This week we will be continuing Unit 5 in our reading series. Our reading question for the week will be "How do children arouund the world get to school?" Our literature selection is This is the Way We Go to School.. Our high frequency sight words are where and come. We will work on drawing conclusions, main idea, segmenting words,blending, verbs, nouns and spelling. We will be continuing to write a main idea sentences about animals and write 1 detail about how it looks. The words we are blending are in the following families: --eg, --en, --et, --ed, --am, --ob, --ill, --im, --on families. Examples of these words are leg, peg, ten, Ned, beg, met, pet, let, Ben, Meg, get, set, bed, hem, and red.
We will be doing farm related activities in preparation for Open House.
In Family Ties, you will find the decodable reader as well as ideas you can do with your child. There is an additional daily homework page coming home this week. Click on the Pearson site to find a list of assignments for the week. Click on Starfall ABC link to practice the a, e, i, o, and u sounds. Click the Learn to Read link to practice reading words with the short u sound. Try the Word Machine game on More Starfall! The Starfall games will help your child practice blending letter sounds to decode words phonetically. Please continue to review color words, number words, and the high frequency sight words for a few minutes each day. Flashcards work really well. The children need to read these words from memory or by sight. Decodable words are words that we can "sound out" such as rat, net, hit, bug.
Spelling Words for the Week: There is a written test on Friday.
