Counting
We are counting by 1's, 5's, and 10's to 100. An excellent YouTube video to help the children in counting by 5's to 100 is: Exercise and Count by 5's (5 Finger on my Right Hand...). All the children have counted by 5's and 10's to 100. Several children still need to count by 1's to 100. We are now counting by 2's to 30.
Initial or Beginning Sounds and Final or Ending Sounds
Please continue to review the initial sounds and final sounds with your child at home. We do it at school daily with Ticket Out the Door. I say a word such as sun, and then I ask for either the initial sound, or the final sound in the word. If it is the initial sound, it would be s, and if t is the final sound it would be n.
Rhyming Sounds or Word families
Please continue to practice rhyming words at home as a game with your child. You have the packet I gave you at Goal Setting Conference time to assist you with choosing words. If i say I am thinking of the word run, can you tell me a word that rhymes with that word, your child should respond with words such as done, fun, gun, hun, none, sun, ton, won (it is important that it has the same sound not necessarily the same spelling!) Have fun with the game.
Rhyming families to date are the -at family, -am family, -ap family, and -an family. We also have the -ob, -od, -om, -on, -ot families. Please continue to practice them!
